How Travel Writing Created the First Memoir
Did you know that travel writing created the first memoir?
This ancient relationship began in 400 BC when a Greek named Herodotus began traveling and writing letters home, forever conjoining the arts of travel writing and memoir.
Award-winning travel writer and memoirist, Lenore Greiner, will show you how to enrich your writing with travel writing as a powerful prism through which to view the self.
The craft of travel writing allows a writer explore the world outside and the world inside herself. Learn how travel writing will help you:
Capture a place as a character as in Hemingway’s A Moveable Feast
Share a healing journey as in Eat, Pray, Love
Make your reader laugh out loud as in Incontinent on the Continent: My Mother, Her Walker and Our Grand Tour of Italy
Learn a basic overview of travel writing within the craft of memoir:
The definition of travel memoir
Travel memoirs throughout history
Types of travel memoirs
Tips on incorporating travel writing into your own memoir
A passionate travel storyteller, Lenore Greiner won a 2021 Gold Solas Travel Writing award for her travel narrative, “From Mill Valley, With Love.” She was honored in Best American Travel Writing 2013, edited by Elizabeth Gilbert.
