Michelle Zive, PhD

Michelle Zive has a PhD in leadership from the University of San Diego.  She has a bachelor’s and master’s degree in nutritional sciences and is a registered dietitian. For over 30 years, she’s worked at UC San Diego as a Principal Investigator on large-scale community health projects focusing on access to healthy foods, physical activity, and food security.  Based on her excellency for writing grants and telling the story, she’s brought in over $20 million dollars into UCSD.  Zive has authored or co-authored over 60 peer-reviewed journal articles.  She was the recipient of the SD Book Award for best unpublished memoir in 2009.  Her focuses are on middle-aged women, feminism, equity, and social justice.

Here’s the vulnerable and brave bio:

Michelle Murphy Zive considers herself a suburban hippie.  She grew up half of her formative years in Pacific Beach (a party and “progressive” town) and the other half in Alpine (a bedroom community with 3,000 people) which is 29 minutes from downtown San Diego. She created two kickass and vulnerable daughters from her first husband.  She is a divorcee (such an antiquated word) and remarried to a man who sees her. Together they have a son. The mere fact that she married a wonderful man and had a son means she cannot hate 49% of the population.  Instead, she is finding ways to create a world where women have a voice.  She is the founder and disruptor of Representation Rebellion (RR).  The mission of RR is to disrupt the stories they sell and tell about us by telling our own.
